Bread & Puppet Theater's Spring Tour: THE BIRDCATCHER IN HELL with Prologue

BandP-Birdcatcher.jpg

THE BIRDCATHCHER IN HELL

A Kyogen, or comic interlude in the Japanese Noh cycle, originally created in 1971 at Goddard College in response to President Nixon's pardon of Lt. Calley, the only US soldier convicted for the My Lai Massacre. The text also features passages of slaughter and mayhem from the Iliad.

This reconstruction will also quote president Obama's looking-forward-as-opposed-to-looking-backward philosophy, in respect to torture and war crimes.

Now, 43 years later, we are able to present the play again, with many of its original performers. We thank Sue Bettman, Mark Dannenhauer, Marc Estrin, and Avram Patt for taking part in this production. The original masonite-cuts were reprinted in the Bread and Puppet print shop by Lila Winstead and community helpers, to make the many banners and costumes for this show.
